In the year of 2050, we can look back at the past decades and note that despite how far we have come with mental health services there is this widespread acceptance that the broad direction of mental health care will never suffice to create an environment where we no longer pair the words crisis and mental health together.
There have been many shortcomings to the existing mental health services over the years. In response, demands have generally been for more professionals, online mental health services and AI therapy. While we do believe that we need better services, we think that we need to approach our mental health through a more individualized and physiological way.
MetaMental was created with the goal to address mental health holistically. It is placed in the brain, constantly scanning the brain to read it’s signals and understand it’s unique way of working in a way that has not existed. It integrates a range of care and support to achieve the needed mental health outcomes for individual’s living in today’s society. There have been several other attempts to approach mental health in holistic ways, those methods however have proved exceptionally hard to achieve consistently and sustainably.
Early intervention in mental health is crucial to the wellbeing of human beings, relationships and communities and is a fundamental principle for the future of healthcare. The mental health services we have had in the past decades have been proven to be poorly equipped to handle the current mental health crises that are only amplified by the climate crisis, political unrest and the tribulation of everyday life. It has become clear to us that in order to make progress in this field, we need to set up preventive measures and individualize care based on every person's lived experiences and their unique biology. MetaMental works differently for every human being, addressing their own individual journeys and health concerns.
If MetaMental detects a change in behaviour and its biological response in the brain, it will provide a signal and react to it right away. Human beings are biased creatures and we can be unreliable narrators of our own lives and feelings, our brains however don’t lie and that is why MetaMental is focused on approaching mental health directly from the brain. MetaMental was created to pick up on our personal biological responses and teach us about ourselves in ways that we have never seen before. We have high hopes that MetaMental will foster a more intimate connection with ourselves and others.
MetaMental started with a group of scientists, psychologists, engineers, neurosurgeons, researchers and data scientists having an ambitious dream to make progress with mental health in ways that we have not been able to for centuries. We approached the idea, not by thinking about how the patient will interact with services but the person and their lives. Everyone’s journey is individual and uniquely personal. Where we have been, what we value, what has happened to us, what happens to our brains when we feel different feelings, what happens to our bodies when they are under stress, where we are now and what we have going for us, all varies amongst people and so will everyone’s personal MetaMental. MetaMental is able to understand our thoughts, feelings and the inner workings of our brains seamlessly. Our brains are incredibly powerful and we believe that MetaMental will assist in teaching it’s users on how to use their brains to assist the healing process and start preventive work.
The future is likely to see a continuing evolution of MetaMental and what it is capable of doing. Although the device has been medically integrated into our bodies, we have access to updating the devices with the permission of its user. Our team is dedicated to continuing furthering the science behind MetaMental and improving itself every year. Mental health recovery is not something that services or professionals do, it is a personal and intimate journey of making sense of our feelings and thoughts, finding meaning in our lives and in the things that have happened to us. It is about discovering our own resources and being resourceful when approaching our health, it's about finding the meaning and purpose of our lives and building a strong sense of self. MetaMental is dedicated to working hard to help make you and the world a better place.
